Climbing gardens around Lake Garda

The mixture of varied rock formations, the mild climate and impressive views make Lake Garda and its surroundings a paradise for climbers.

Arco is a popular destination for climbers not only because of the many cheap shops with climbing equipment but also because it probably has the most extensive collection of climbing gardens in Italy. They are quick and easy to reach, and because of their location right on the lake, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in between.

As every climber knows, the climbing gardens are only accessible with the right equipment. If you are climbing, you need a climbing harness, rope, express slings, carabiner, helmet and climbing shoes. Everyone should be familiar with backup techniques; otherwise, you should consult professional mountain guides.

In addition to Arco, there are more climbing hot spots. There are particularly good climbing gardens in the Valle dei Laghi, Valle di Sarca, in Trentino, at Nago and Torbole, in the Val di Gresta, Valli Giudicarie, Val di Cavedini, Mori-Rovereto, Valle Rendena and in the south of Lake Garda.

The most famous climbing areas on Lake Garda include:

  • Policromuro in Massone at Arco with overhanging walls
  • Calvario in the Sarca Valley near Arco
  • Corno di Bò near Torbole
  • Marmitte dei Giganti at Torbole
  • Spaggia delle Lucertole near Torbole
  • Sasso San Valentino at Gargnano
  • Sasso della Rocca di Manerba near Manerba del Garda
  • Placche Zebrate at Dro

A suitable climbing garden for climbing with children is in the Busatte Adventure Park near Torbole. In order not to list all climbing gardens individually, we refer climbing friends to the page www.arcowall.com. There you will always find current information on the individual climbing gardens and reader comments with helpful tips.
