Hike from Rifugio Cima Rest to Monte Caplone
Take the opportunity to immerse yourself in a piece of history high above Lake Garda and hike from rustic haystacks on historic trails to the Monte Caplone with stunning views.
The beginning of this walk is at the Rifugio Cima Rest of Magasa. To reach Cima Rest, follow the road from Gargnano on Lake Garda, past Lake Valvestino, towards Valvestino and Magasa.
Cima Rest is a small town of the mountain community of Magasa in the Valvestino Valley. Here you'll find a particularly rustic and healthy place to stay in renovated and thatched haystacks. On Malga Corva, one of the huts serves as a folklore museum with a specially constructed observatory. Throughout the district, there are ideal conditions for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking.
The hike from Rifugio Cima Rest to Monte Caplone leads slowly up to the tree line and past several mountain pastures. It turns into a red-white marked trail, which opens into a war-path leading through a tunnel to the Bocca di Campei. The hike begins from the Rifugio Cima Rest and goes over wide and narrow tracks, steep, historical war trails, through untouched nature, and up 1,976 meters to the top of Monte Caplone.
On the way back it's worth making the descent via the Malga Tombea and from there to the Bocca di Caplona because of the fantastic views of Lake Idro. Along the way, you pass several war shelters, bringing the history of the area back to life. From here, the track leads down to the Denai Alp and the Alvezza Alp, not far from Cima Rest. The total walking time is about 5 hours and recommended for experienced hikers in good condition.
An attraction of this hike is the possibility to spend the night in a haystack before or after the tour!
