Long-distance hiking on Monte Baldo
Monte Baldo offers numerous opportunities for hikes with different levels of difficulty. On the long-distance trail to Bocca di Neve you can experience a special kind of trip.
A classic hiking area of Lake Garda is the botanical garden of Europe, on the ridge of Monte Baldo east of the lake. The ridge is over 30 km long and offers a home to over 800 plant species, many of which are rare. There are a variety of beautiful hiking trails and a fascinating view in all directions.
A particularly interesting path is the Sentiero delle Creste, where access is by cable car from Malcesine, Lake Garda. This long-distance hiking trail takes hikers past many pastures to Bocca di Neve in Trentino in two days. Our variant is a shortened version of the route, which is feasible in one day and starts and ends at 1,255 meters in Novezzina.
The path initially leads from the botanical garden in the direction of the Passo Tratto Spino. In the large meadow, it goes southwest to 1,800 meters, where the view extends to the Adige Valley and the Lessinian Mountains.
Continue to Rifugio Telegrafo at 2,147 meters above sea level and the Cima Telegrafo summit immediately above it, where you'll find an overwhelming view of the Central Alps. Finally, it goes over the peaks Valdritta and Pozetta down to Tratto Spino and on gravel road back to Novezzina.
This route lasts about 10 hours and is recommended only for experienced hikers with good stamina and no vertigo. Weekdays are especially advisable for the trip because on the weekends in the high season, there are long waiting times at the cable car in Malcesine.
