Verona - the city of lovers

Everyone knows the tragic story of young Juliet and her Romeo in Shakespeare's Verona. The romantic story has moved people to tears for centuries so, it’s not surprising that Verona is a popular holiday destination for honeymooners or a couples first holiday.

Via Capello 27 in Verona, is allegedly Juliet's parent's house. Lovesick notes from hopeful and lost lovers cover the building and courtyard like graffiti.

In the middle is a bronze statue of Juliet. They say that touching her right breast will bring you happiness in love. For tourism purposes, they added a stone balcony to the Scaliger building, to illustrate where Juliet would have waved to her Romeo. Further north in the Via Arche Scaligere is the House of Montagues, the claimed residence of Romeo's family.

Verona itself is the capital of the Italian province of Veneto. A settlement existed here in pre-Roman times. The famous arena was built around 30 AD, and operas and concerts are now held here during the summer months. The arena is in Piazza delle Erbe. There are plenty of cafés and bars, so it's an ideal place to take in the city.

In the university town of Verona, besides the arena, you can visit the Arco dei Gavi and the Porta dei Borsari, in the city centre the Castle Castelvecchio and the bridge Ponte Scaligero, the Piazza dei Signori, the sacral buildings, the Ponte Pietra and the Teatro Romano. In short: Verona is a unique open-air museum and offers a multicultural city and a lively nightlife. Verona is a must for lovers of Italy, and it's only a few kilometres from the beach of Lake Garda!
