Walking with a pram around Lake Garda

If you’re travelling with small children and babies, there’s more to navigate and much more to organise. Sometimes you might feel like you’ll miss out on certain activities because they aren’t child-friendly. Don't worry, you won't miss out on anything at Lake Garda, as it offers many experiences and surprises for the whole family, even if you have the stroller with you.

Splashing with your children in the water, enjoying the sun, doing nothing and relaxing are not the only activities that Lake Garda suggests. The stunning surroundings of the lake are too beautiful to remain undiscovered.

The many pretty towns and villages have pedestrian zones free of traffic, where you can walk with a stroller, far from street noise and exhaust fumes. You can meander through nature with the many easy walking and hiking trails, of which some are easily doable with prams or buggies.

A popular stroller route is the one between Riva del Garda and Torbole. It's approximately 4-kilometres long, and the path is flat and leads along the lakeshore. Another recommended family hiking trail connects the ruins of Castel Penede with Nago-Torbole. It's an approximately one-hour tour with 50 metres difference in altitude and follows the signs to the castle ruins and then leads right over the Strada di Santa Lucia down to Torbole.

Tips for walks with the stroller

Here are a few, but essential notes that you should consider when hiking with your baby in a stroller:

  • Estimate the duration and altitude difference of the route and also calculate the corresponding time for the return journey
  • Take everything your child might need, for example, diapers/nappies, clothes to change, water, food and some favourite toys
  • Plan your start time well, and avoid hot midday hours
  • Take sunscreen and insect repellent
  • It’s best to walk when your child usually takes a nap and they usually sleep better in the fresh air!

On the way, a shady spot may invite you to linger. Why not spread the blanket out, rest a little and play? Have fun!
