Via ferrata Gerardo Sega

Anticipation is known to be the best pleasure. The Via Ferrata Gerardo Sega gives you almost two hours of climbing pleasure because that's how long it takes to ascend. So don't despair, the best is always at the end.

On the slightly longer but very nice "start-up track" with the signposts 652 and 685, you go along a forest road that leads across a varied plateau, passing an idyllic gorge at the impressive Preafessa waterfall. Then you turn the corner and suddenly find yourself in front of a ravine on the slope with large rock formations, seemingly impossible, mighty stone walls and in the middle of the via ferrata.

Directions

Drive through the narrow village of Avio. At the end of the town, there is a signpost Pra da Stua. Then in the Valle dei Molini to the mouth of the Aviana stream (3.5 km), there is the first car park. Those who want to start the tour from further up should drive up to the reservoir of Pra da Stua and on to Passo della Cola. There you will find another car park. If you choose the second climb, you shorten the entire walking time by approx. 1.5 hours.

Follow the signs 652 and 685 until you reach the beginning of the via ferrata, which is between two substantial overhanging covers. After a short ladder, it goes over some rocks to a narrow but secure rock band, which leads around the left ridge. The trail continues steeply, and you find yourself on a wider band, this time without rope safety. The panorama is breathtaking, and the feeling you feel when standing on the vast wall is unforgettable.

Where the rocks end, there’s a viewing terrace for spectacular photo opportunities and the exit of the via ferrata.
