Campfour Boulder in Pietramurata at Lake Garda
North of Lake Garda is Campfour Boulder in Pietramurata. The bouldering hall offers a total of 500 m² of a climbing surface on walls completely covered with resin - including walls up to five metres high.
The term "bouldering" comes from the English "boulder" which is a large round rock. Bouldering is a form of rock climbing performed on small rock formations or artificial rock walls, known as boulders, without climbing rope or a harness. When bouldering, you climb at low altitude with soft mattresses on the ground for protection. There are many climbing opportunities in 8 sectors, for each level and everyone from 2 to 100 years old can participate.
Bouldering has been considered an independent discipline in sports since the 1970s. The "flow", the so-called dynamic movement style of bouldering, was coined by the American John Gill. Gill also introduced the use of magnesia powder for an increased hand grip. A "problem boulder" usually has four to eight holds but it can only consist of a start and a top hold. A widely used rating system in bouldering is the Fontainebleau scale, named after the popular climbing area in France.
